Building a load-pull measurement setup is a complex undertaking. Impedance tuners, probe station, RF probes, vector network analyzer, signal sources, cables, bias tees and software must all be carefully matched, integrated and calibrated as a complete system. Application Areas

Fundamental Load Pull (Entry Level & Broadband)

For classic power amplifier characterization and getting started with load-pull measurements, we offer the CCMT series (Coaxial Computer-Controlled Mechanical Tuner). With a single probe and fundamental-only tuning (f0), these tuners are broadband, easy to calibrate and cover frequency ranges from 0.8 GHz to 65 GHz.

Harmonic Load Pull (Multi-Purpose Tuners)

The MPT series (Multi-Purpose Tuner) is the core competency of Focus Microwaves. Multiple independently positionable probes enable simultaneous tuning of the fundamental and harmonics (f0, 2f0 and partly 3f0). This makes amplifier classes such as Class-F, Class-F⁻¹ and Doherty possible – with significant efficiency gains compared to fundamental-only tuning.

Typical applications: GaN power amplifiers, 5G mmWave, Class-F/Doherty design, wafer and package test, harmonic waveform engineering

On-Wafer mmWave Load Pull (DELTA Low-Profile Tuners)

For on-wafer measurements in the 5G and mmWave range, the DELTA series offers the lowest-profile design on the market. Mounted directly behind the RF probe, it minimizes the loss between probe and tuner and thereby achieves a higher effective |Γ| at the wafer reference plane. The DELTA tuners were developed specifically for integration with MPI probe stations – a direct benefit of our shared group affiliation.

Typical applications: On-wafer load pull into the mmWave range, 5G FR2 characterization, 120 GHz harmonic load pull, low-loss wafer-level measurements

Sub-THz Load Pull (Waveguide Tuners)

Above approximately 50 GHz, coaxial losses become too high – here, waveguide tuners are the method of choice. Focus covers all standard bands from Q through V, W, D, G to Y, reaching frequencies up to 330 GHz in combination with VNA frequency extenders.

Typical applications: 6G and SatCom development, radar and imaging applications, radio astronomy, research at universities and national research centers

 

Active- and Modulated Load Pull (Mesuro)

With the Mesuro platform acquired by Focus Microwaves, we offer active load-pull systems for the most demanding tasks in amplifier development. The MB series enables waveform engineering directly at the DUT reference plane and supports modulated signals (5G NR) as well as the X-parameter methodology.

Typical applications: Advanced PA R&D, Class-J/Chireix design, waveform reconstruction, characterization with modulated signals, 5G/6G research

Pulsed-IV and Noise Characterization

With the Mesuro platform acquired by Focus Microwaves, we offer active load-pull systems for the most demanding tasks in amplifier development. The MB series enables waveform engineering directly at the DUT reference plane and supports modulated signals (5G NR) as well as the X-parameter methodology.

Typical applications: Pulsed-IV measurements, GaN trapping effects, noise parameter extraction, isothermal and isodynamic device characterization
